Free software

Although Java software is intended to be platform-independent, this software has only been tested on Microsoft Windows™

Secure Data

A simple secure database for storing small amounts of personal data in an encrypted form, minimising the need to remember a number of usernames, PINs and passwords.

Latest version is 1.4.97

  • 1.4.97 Change from 1.3.87 – Print function added.
  • 1.3.87 (not released) Change from 1.2.82 – Encryption modified so that when the same plain text is encrypted in different parts of the database the encrypted text is never the same.
  • 1.2.82 (not released) Change from 1.1.81 – Sorting of group and entry names now ignores case.
  • 1.1.81 (not released)
Change from 1.0.77 – Scroll bar on group list when required.
  • 1.0.77 (first release)

Installing the software

To install this software, download the zip file and unpack or copy the files from the zip file to a convenient folder. This can be a new (empty) folder or one you are using already. As the software creates other files in the folder you may find that (in the long run) a folder just for the software is better.

To run the software you must have installed the Java Runtime Engine (JRE).

Using the software

To open the software you open the JAR file usually by double-clicking it.

Identifying the JAR file

If you have Windows set so that it does not sure file extensions then it may not be immediately obvious which is the JAR file. Normally it will have the same name as the software and begin with a capital letter. You may check this by right-clicking the file and selecting properties. In this case you should see something like:

Jar file

which should mention Executable Jar File.

Creating a short cut

You may create a short cut to the software as explained in the Windows Help – here is the relevant section:
